Our new Weihenstephaner Podcast: 1000 Years of Beer!

As from now, the world´s oldest brewery not only offers you pure drinking pleasure with its broad range of bottom and top fermented beer specialties, but also a feast for your ears with its newly launched podcast “1000 Years of Beer”.

As from now, the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan will regularly provide beer connoisseurs and enthusiasts with valuable information about the diversity of beer, brewing methods, traditions, and innovations as well as many more exciting topics. At least eight episodes are planned per season. The podcast is available on all popular platforms:

Before diving into the world of beer in the first episode, the two hosts, brand ambassador Matthias Ebner along with Anton Hirschfeld, the brewery´s online marketing manager, introduce themselves in an intro. The Bavarian State Brewery then really gets started with their “beercast“ with its first episode on the topic of non-alcoholic beers. Health awareness, drinkability and more – the topic of non-alcoholic beer has long since ceased to be an exotic beer topic. Talking to Dr. Martina Gastl, expert for non-alcoholic beer at the TUM School of Life Sciences, the two hosts find out why non-alcoholic beer does not necessarily have to be called “beer“ – and what must change for this market to grow. At regular intervals, episodes of varying length will follow on topics such as sensory analysis, dispensing technology and export. Those who subscribe to the podcast can expect more guests and experts from the brewery and the occasional celebrity from the brewing industry in the future.

The Sensory Analysis Episode:

“That tastes great“ – and that´s the end of the sensory analysis topic? Far from it! Florian Lehnhardt, head of the sensory laboratory at the Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology at the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan, gives away some inside secrets – tasting beer all day and earning money with it? Is that possible? Or is there more to it?

The Dispensing Technology Episode:

Gastronomy, festivals and more – dispensing systems are needed everywhere. Roman Werner, head of the testing laboratory for dispensing systems at the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan, explains what is important when it comes to dispensing hygiene, how crucial the dispensing system is for the quality of the beer and what is really done all day in a testing laboratory.

The Export Episode:

At the turn of the millennium, the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan decided to expand worldwide – the lion´s share of this decision process is attributed to the then new export manager Marcus Englet, who is still in office today. Listeners can expect stories and anecdotes from around the world – and how an employee of a medium-sized Bavarian brewery suddenly lands on Chinese national television without any preparation time at all.
